For years, people have asked me the same question: Where do you go when you disappear for weeks at a time? The truth is, I’m out on the road cutting silhouettes, signing books, and exploring places that most people never get to see. Now, I’m bringing you along for the ride with my new YouTube channel, Silhouette Highway.
The Story Behind Silhouette Highway

I’ve spent my life traveling, visiting small towns, meeting incredible people, and discovering hidden gems along the way. I’ve always loved the adventure of the road, and I realized it would be fun to share some of those experiences on video. So, I started filming my travels, and Silhouette Highway was born.
More Than Just Travel
Silhouette Highway isn’t just about where I go—it’s about what I find along the way. For me, cutting silhouettes has always been about capturing moments. It’s an art that tells a story with just a few simple cuts of paper, and every silhouette carries a memory. Some of the best moments happen when I meet families who have had silhouettes cut for generations, creating a tradition that spans lifetimes.
Beyond the silhouettes, this journey is about discovery. I’ve always believed that some of the best places aren’t in guidebooks. They’re hidden in alleyways, tucked inside old general stores, or served on a diner plate in a town with a population of 200. Whether it’s a roadside barbecue shack with a story to tell or a tiny art gallery in the middle of nowhere, these are the moments that make the road so special.
A Legacy of Storytelling

Storytelling has always been at the heart of what I do, whether it’s through silhouettes, my children’s books, or music. My grandfather, Carew Rice, was once called America’s Greatest Silhouettist by poet Carl Sandburg. His work captured the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry, and growing up around his art, I knew I wanted to continue that legacy in my own way.
That’s what Silhouette Highway is about—continuing the tradition of storytelling but in a new form. Instead of just seeing the finished silhouettes, you get to experience the journey with me, meeting the people and places that inspire my work.
What Would You Like to See?

I’d love to make Silhouette Highway an interactive experience, and I want to hear from you! What kinds of stories and places interest you? Are there specific small towns, hidden gems, or unique traditions you’d like me to explore? Do you have a family story or a favorite place that would make a great episode?
Drop a comment on my videos or send me a message with your ideas. I want this channel to be a journey we take together, and your feedback will help shape where I go next.
